Description
The Papagiannis house is the work of architect Ernst Ziller and was built in 1972.
Initially it belonged to D. Kapranos, while at the end of the 19th century it became the property of the merchant and ship owner Papagiannis.
It is a three-storey building located on the east side of Vas. Georgiou AD, having three faces, one on Gerokostopoulou Street and the other two on Kanakari and the square where arcades with arched openings are formed on the ground floor.
It is distinguished for the harmony of its facades and the symmetry in the arrangement of its openings and other morphological elements, while on the third floor, which is smaller in area leaving two terraces on either side, there are parapets with ceramic columns and neoclassical statues, which give the building a special character.
The Papagianni house received various uses but since the first decades of the 20th century, it houses the Club of the Commercial Association "Hermes", which today operates as a cultural association and hosts in its halls banquets and events of cultural, charitable and generally social character.
