Description
At the top of Achillea Gerokostopoulou Street, which until the end of the 19th century was called Independence, is the middle of the three stairs that connect the lower with the upper part of Patras. The people of Patras also called them Giogkarakis stairs, a name due to a traditional cafe that existed at the top until the 60's. On the sides of the stairs there were shops that housed traditional commercial and handicraft activities as the area is a continuation of the Markato district. Today there are many cafes there while in many places that are excavated parts of the Roman Stadium - Theater of the 10th AD are revealed.
