POINTS OF INTEREST
Saint Andrew of the Catholics
The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Andrew is located on Maizonos Street, near Queen Olga Square, and serves as a landmark for the Catholic community of Patras. On the same site, there was previously a smaller church built around 1840, along with a ground-floor residence for the parish priest, which is now a two-storey building.
The construction of the present church began in 1925, initiated by the Patras-born parish priest Ioannis Sinegalia, and based on the plans of engineer Karavellas.
The church follows a simple Italian architectural style, with a modest façade and a distinctive bell tower in the center.
Inside, two side altars stand out, dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saint Joseph, while the interior wall paintings were created by the artist Nikolaos Atzaritis.
