Patras' New Port

Greece’s main gateway to the West: a modern port with massive ferries, daily Italy routes, and glowing night departures.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Greece’s sea gateway to Italy

Patras’ New Port, on the city’s southern waterfront (Akti Dymaion), is Greece’s most important maritime hub to the West. Ferries connect Greece with Italian ports every day, handling thousands of passengers and vehicles—so for many travelers, the sight of huge ships at the docks becomes their first or last vivid memory of Greece.

Unlike the picturesque Old Port in the city center, this area is defined by modern design and large-scale functionality: contemporary passenger terminals, vast parking zones, and infrastructure that reflects Patras’ role as a commercial and tourist crossroads.

At night, watching the illuminated ships depart for the Adriatic adds a distinct travel charm—like the journey begins before you even step onboard.
