POINTS OF INTEREST
The beer that became Patras’ local identity
Mamos Brewery is one of the most important chapters in the industrial history of Patras—and Greece. It was founded by Petros Mamos, the first formally trained Greek brewmaster, who brought know-how from Munich and adapted it to local reality
In the early 20th century, the name “Mamos” became closely tied to Patras’ economic rise, when the city emerged as a brewing hub in the Balkans.
Although the old industrial facilities no longer operate in their original form, the brand’s architectural and cultural legacy still feels present around the city. In recent years, the revival of the historic beer has brought the iconic logo back into the spotlight.
For visitors, the “Mamos experience” is both culinary and cultural: try the local beer in Patras’ bars and tavernas—ideally with meze—as a simple, delicious tribute to the city’s industrial past.
