POINTS OF INTEREST

Neoclassical grandeur in the heart of Patras

The Thomaopoulos House, an architectural work by Ernst Ziller around 1870, stands as an iconic example of neoclassical urban residence in Patras.

It is a three-story corner building dominating the northern side of Vasileos Georgiou A’ Square, featuring characteristic arcaded colonnades with arched openings on both façades.

Its architecture stands out for the balance and symmetry of its façades, featuring pronounced morphological elements and ornate niches on the first floor that house neoclassical ceramic statues, giving the building a distinctive aesthetic value.

Today, the residence belongs to the National Bank of Greece. The ground floor houses a bank branch, while the two upper floors have been converted into the Cultural Center of the Hellenic Bank’s Educational Foundation, hosting art exhibitions and cultural events.
