POINTS OF INTEREST
Ascent with views, history, and vibrancy
The stairs of Agiou Nikolaou Street are the largest of Patras’ three iconic staircases, serving as a timeless landmark in the city. They were constructed in 1930, replacing the old dirt uphill path that started from the eponymous church in the Vlatero district and ascended to the western end of the Castle, near the circular bastion and the beginning of Papadiamantopoulou Street.
The staircase, imposing and symmetrical, has become one of the most photographed spots in the city.
As you ascend the steps, the postcard-perfect view of Patras gradually unfolds, with the Gulf of Patras and the opposite Aetolian coasts stretching across the horizon.
A walk, exercise, or photography? Whatever the reason for your visit, the experience on the Saint Nicholas stairs remains unforgettable.
